"Hot Summer" is the lead single from Hot Summer, the first album repackage by multi-national girl group f(x).

Korean Version

Composition

"Hot Summer" is a song originally released by German pop group Monrose from their second studio album, Strictly Physical (2007). A dance-pop song with heavy elements of Europop and house, it written and co-produced by Danish songwriters Remee and Thomas Troelsen.

S.M. Entertainment would later purchase the rights to the song, and had Remee and Troelson slightly rework the song for f(x).

Reception

The Korean version was a commercial success, peaking at number two on the Gaon digital single chart, recording over 375,000 downloads during its release week. It debuted at number five,[1] then moved up to its peak a week later.[2]

"Hot Summer" also ranked highly among Gaon's other charts, peaking at number two on the BGM chart.[3] and number one on the streaming chart.[4]

The song was the 16th most successful digital song of 2011 in South Korea, selling 2,909,384 copies by the end of the year.[5]

Background

Due to the success of the Korean version of "Hot Summer", f(x) eventually recorded the song in Japanese.

Subsequently, f(x) debuted in Japan by releasing the Japanese remake of "Hot Summer" on August 5, 2012, as their 1st Japanese digital single. The accompanying music video was released on the same day.

The song was also selected as the commercial background song for Uminoie Resort.

The song was eventually re-released as part of the double single release of Summer Special Hot Summer/Pinocchio on July 22, 2015.[6]
